Rihanna returns with this new single, which sounds like a remix of her 2018 hit, ‘S&M.’
Just a day after the release of Black Panther: The Album, the movie is back on the air with a series of live-concert broadcasts, leading up next weekend’s release of the soundtrack, which includes the title theme song from the Black Panther movie.
In Rihanna’s latest contribution to the soundtrack, “Lift Me Up,” the singer pays tribute to the MCU’s latest franchise as she sings of finding her place in a world that is both expansive and boundless. And her new song brings her one step closer to the next Black Panther trailer — her first since recording “Needed Me,” the theme song from the hit movie.
“This is for people who have told me they needed a lift, a shoulder to cry on, a breath to breathe, or you know what, a song to sing. And now you’ve got it,” Rihanna said Thursday in a clip posted on social media.

“I’m so happy to be able to sing again. I wasn’t on my best tunes,” she continued. “I’m so proud of what I’ve been able to do. I’ve been so blessed to work with so many amazing people and record with so many amazing musicians that have made this album.”
Speaking to reporters at a press call that was streamed on YouTube Live, Rihanna spoke about how Black Panther: The Album — her first album since 2013’s Unapologetic — feels like, as she put it, “her best work.”
“I’ve been working on it for over a year now, and I’m super psyched to see everybody’s reaction to it. I’m so excited and I’m so proud of what we put out. It’s our best album — we’ve worked so hard on it,” she said.
“For me, it was something I had been working on for so long, and it felt so good to be able to complete that, to put some of these elements together and put out an album.”
