Tom Hanks reprises ‘SNL’ Halloween character David S. Pumpkins during surprise sketch
Halloween is one of the most popular holiday of the year in the U.S., and there are plenty of celebrities making their way around the land of the living dead in costume to get the jump on trick-or-treaters.
While none of today’s stars have had the same fortune as Hanks, one of his best roles has come to him in the form of his SNL character David S. Pumpkins.
It’s not every day that you meet your heroes in the form of the character you played in a movie. But this isn’t your ordinary Halloween, which is why we wanted to check out the star’s reaction to the costume.
“That night we were going to be at a house full of friends and family, and we wanted to be able to do something to thank our costume designer and our makeup team for working so hard on it,” Hanks said with some amusement. “So we had to convince her to let us come in and do a sketch.”
“All of a sudden I got to be the David S. Pumpkins Halloween costume,” he added with a laugh.
That’s not the only sketch Hanks is in during this year’s Halloween celebration of Halloween. At the last half-hour of the broadcast, he’s also serving as a correspondent for a new segment called “Flex,” which will be featured on late night on Friday or Saturday nights.
“I guess you’ll be seeing more of me,” he said on Monday’s episode of “Hangin’ with the Hub” with former “Today” show anchor Matt Lauer. “I have a great cameo in that one.”
“It’s a comedy sketch, we just did it in front of a live studio audience, and the idea was that we’re all sort of trying to figure out who the real David S. Pumpkins is,” he explained.
